Portfolio Analyst

Context and Background:

LEAP | Pecaut Centre for Social Impact envisions a society where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Since our founding over six years ago, the Centre has built a unique venture philanthropy model across the country, catalyzing large-scale social impact by selecting, supporting and scaling breakthrough social ventures and unleashing the potential of collaboration across sectors. Today, our portfolio consists of 14 social ventures and has mobilized over $12M of pro bono, influenced over $50M of funding toward its portfolio, and impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands across Canada and beyond.

 

LEAP is seeking an analytical all-star with strong communications skills and a drive to get things done.  The portfolio analyst will support the portfolio team at LEAP and enable the team and our corporate partners to select the next portfolio social ventures and support, add value and report impact on the current social ventures within the portfolio. By working with all members of the portfolio team, the portfolio analyst will have exposure to all aspects of the work, from our due diligence and accelerator to our scaling portfolio and corporate sector partners. The role reports into the Centre’s Portfolio Director and works closely with the LEAP team, located in the Boston Consulting Group office in downtown Toronto.  


Primary Responsibilities:

The portfolio analyst will be responsible for supporting the portfolio team.  The responsibilities of the portfolio analyst include tracking and quantifying the impact of our social ventures and the Centre, matching sector partner staff (“impact catalysts”) with project opportunities and orchestrating workshops for our portfolio social ventures.

 

Portfolio analysis and reporting

  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports of the impact of the social ventures within the LEAP portfolio

  • Continue to track, monitor and quantify the impact of LEAP as social ventures continue to scale

  • Develop and manage the LEAP portfolio team dashboard and KPIs

 

Due diligence and research

  • Conduct rigorous due diligence on potential portfolio social ventures

  • Conduct research to develop the Centre’s thought leadership or to prepare for portfolio meetings

  • Research and assess potential partnerships for accelerator

 

Impact catalyst management

  • Organize and promote lunch & learns for sector partner staff to learn about opportunities to engage with the Centre

  • Manage the onboarding of new sector partner staff engaging with the Centre (“impact catalysts”)

  • Partner with the portfolio team to match impact catalysts with upcoming engagement opportunities

  • Track the status of impact catalysts and prepare monthly reports for each sector partner of the staff engaged

  • Analyze impact catalyst satisfaction by administering surveys and interviews to continue to improve experience

  • Continually identify ways to improve the impact catalyst experience and process

 

Workshop and event planning

  • Partner with the portfolio team to organize topic-specific workshops to build the capacity of the portfolio ventures

  • Lead event planning for portfolio breakfasts to spotlight our journey with a portfolio social venture

  • Liaise with sector partner events, catering, IT and administrative teams to set up all logistics for workshops and events

  • Market the events to our stakeholders by developing emails, flyers, images and managing invitation lists

  • Ensure the events run smoothly, troubleshooting operational issues and following up with attendees with surveys

 

Portfolio administration

  • Organize and coordinate meetings that involve multiple stakeholders

  • Develop team meeting agendas, book meeting rooms, print materials and take team meeting minutes


Skill Requirements:

  • Passion for creating social change and addressing systemic inequities

  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative through prior experiences

  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative

  • Excellent organizational management skills, such as setting and achieving strategic objectives and plans

  • Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint are required

  • Ability to produce and edit high-quality written materials (articles, presentations etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, communication and public speaking skills

  • Flexibility to perform a multifunctional role on a small, nimble team

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, Squarespace, MailChimp, and video editing considered an asset 

  • Demonstrated cultural competence working across many different populations

  • Positive attitude and sense of humor
