Context and Background:
LEAP | Pecaut Centre for Social Impact envisions a society where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Since our founding over six years ago, the Centre has built a unique venture philanthropy model across the country, catalyzing large scale social impact by selecting, supporting and scaling breakthrough social ventures and unleashing the potential of collaboration across sectors. Today, our portfolio consists of 14 social ventures and has mobilized over $12M of pro bono, influenced over $50M of funding toward its portfolio, and impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands across Canada and beyond.
LEAP is seeking a dynamic, analytical, relationship-oriented leader with a drive to get things done and to coach leaders and their organizations to their potential. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for supporting and coaching portfolio ventures and their leaders along their scaling journey and to achieve their long-term growth and impact targets, for coordinating and project managing our private sector projects, for effectively implementing our next accelerator cohort program and reporting out regularly on impact.

The role reports into the Centre’s Portfolio Director and works closely with the LEAP team, our portfolio ventures and our sector partners, located in the Boston Consulting Group office in downtown Toronto.
The Portfolio Manager will be primary responsible for supporting and coaching social entrepreneurs and their teams, for mobilizing resources and reporting impact to enable portfolio social ventures to deliver against engagement goals, and for managing our next social venture accelerator.
Support, coach and track portfolio social ventures
Support a portfolio of up to 3-5 social entrepreneurs leading high impact social ventures seeking to scale impact
Serve as a primary relationship manager for social entrepreneurs and their teams over the course of the Centre’s engagement, seeking to build strong, trusting relationships
Contribute to due diligence process to ensure seamless transition to portfolio for selected ventures
Provide ongoing coaching, strategic support and hands-on assistance to deliver against short and long-term goals
Work closely with social entrepreneurs to identify support needs to address challenges and unlock opportunities
Track progress of social ventures against engagement goals and report on impact
Mobilize sector partner resources
Engage with private sector partners to match high priority, social venture needs with sector partner expertise
Manage the onboarding, scope, and contributions of pro-bono service provider staff members
Facilitate connections and communication among Centre, portfolio ventures and sector partners to ensure smooth project delivery and positive project outcomes
Develop relationships and foster ongoing communication with sector partner staff and leaders and continue provide value to partners through Centre’s engagement
Manage the next LEAP accelerator
Lead the execution of the Centre’s next accelerator, expected to launch by 2019
Plan impactful and inspiring in-person forums for ventures 3 to 4 times per year
Organize targeted and concrete virtual learning sessions 3 to 4 times per year
Identify opportunities to build meaningful cohort connections and collaboration
Contribute to Centre’s knowledge base and thought leadership
Use the lessons from the portfolio social ventures to develop thought leadership to advance the social sector
Further develop and contribute to Centre’s Knowledge Hub to provide valuable resources to portfolio ventures
Collect and analyze data and reports from our ventures to capture critical lessons learned to improve our processes, to inform our strategy and to ensure we are appropriately responding to the needs of our ventures
Develop reports and narratives to captures the stories and impact of our social ventures along their scaling journey
Passion for creating social change and addressing systemic inequities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build strong relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders
Experience coaching, consulting or leading executives in not-for-profit or for-profit environment(s)
Excellent project management skills, such as setting and achieving strategic objectives and plans
Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills
Demonstrated leadership, initiative and willingness to be hands-on through prior experiences
Ability to develop high-quality, compelling written materials (presentations, articles, etc.)
Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint are required
Flexibility to perform a multifunctional role on a small, nimble team
Demonstrated cultural competence working across many different populations
