Donor Relations and Communication Coordinator

Sophie supports LEAP on its mission to do good, better through storytelling.

Prior to joining LEAP, Sophie was an intern at TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin where she had the opportunity to be a junior producer. Sophie has volunteered with The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, MP, World University Service of Canada and Girls Inc. York Region. Sophie studied International Development with a focus on Gender Studies, Civic Engagement and Global Citizenship as well as Journalism which gives her strong critical thinking and creative skills.

Sophie is an avid equestrian and competes in show jumping on the national level with hopes of moving up to the international level in the future.

    Lindsay Birbrager

    Portfolio Manager

    Lindsay is an experienced strategy and growth manager, with expertise in project management, stakeholder engagement and analytics. She spent the last five years of her career assisting businesses in meeting their growth targets, by helping them overcome barriers and adapt to changing market dynamics.

    Prior to joining LEAP Lindsay worked in the educational technology space as a Senior Growth Manager, where she was responsible to generate new revenue streams for the organization. In this role she conducted due diligence and led experiments to validate market opportunities. In addition to her experience in growth, Lindsay is an Ivey published case writer. She has written six cases focused on leadership and entrepreneurship, which are leveraged in Ivey’s core curriculum to aid in the development of student’s critical thinking skills.

    Lindsay holds an Honours Business Administration from Ivey Business School, and completed the New Leader Course from Harvard University.

    Kevin Yu

    Manager, Social Impact and Investments

    Kevin supports LEAP in its mission to scale positive social change by engaging with the portfolio Alumni network, connecting Impact Catalysts with strategic initiatives, and analyzing the impact-data infrastructure of its portfolio companies.

    Prior to LEAP, Kevin has held diverse industry experiences across impact investing, investment management, risk management, power & utilities, and capital markets sectors. Outside of work, you can see Kevin reading about social impact, effective altruism, and impact investing, as well as volunteering at organizations or at events with purposeful mission. Recreationally, Kevin enjoys being involved in a variety of sports (swimming, triathlon, football) and exploring the cultural diversity of Toronto.

    Kevin graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in Finance and Economics, from University of British Columbia. He speaks Korean at a native capacity and Japanese at a conversational capacity.

    Taharka is a portfolio manager at the LEAP | Pecaut Centre for Social Impact. His work focuses on growing and scaling social enterprises that improve the overall health of Canadians. Prior to joining LEAP Taharka worked in Canada and the US as an operations consulting manager at PwC. During his time at PwC Taharka gained exposure to 13 different sectors, completing growth, cost reduction and operating model strategies for his various clients. Throughout this consulting work Taharka maintained a strong passion for social impact and dedicated much of his time to coaching students on how to solve social challenges--an endeavour that he continues to do today!

    Taharka holds a MSc in Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship from the London School of Economics and a Bachelors of Commerce degree from Ryerson University.

    Sabrina Ladha

    Sabrina serves as the Portfolio Director for LEAP| Pecaut Centre for Social Impact, leading the portfolio management, coaching and value creation support, as well as the management of LEAP’s due diligence and investment process.

    Sabrina is an entrepreneur and business executive with over a decade of experience starting and scaling agribusiness and education-focused companies across African and Asian markets. Sabrina also serves as a Harvard Kennedy School Leadership Coach, working with global business leaders to maximize organizational effectiveness and build individualized leadership approaches.

    Sabrina holds a Master in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Arlington, as well as a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

    With more than 25 years of experience leading the transformation of organizations and social impact initiatives, Dr. Lorna Reid has a deep passion for engaging diverse stakeholders in a way that can multiply and leverage expertise and resources towards a collective goal.

    Most recently, she founded a strategic advisory that has supported and mentored entrepreneurial and executive leaders in organizations in Canada to tailor effective and measurable social impact strategies. Prior to this, she spent 15 years in global executive leadership roles at War Child Canada and Right To Play International, both based in Toronto. She has led research and development projects in Latin America for university consortia and government agencies, worked for the Institute of Latin American and Iberian Studies at Columbia University, and held consultancies for Canadian Embassies, UNICEF, INSTRAW and the MacArthur Foundation. Dr. Read has served as an adjunct professor and taught courses related to community and global development, at universities in Canada and the U.S.

    Lorna holds a doctorate in Political Science from Columbia University, with a concentration in comparative politics and international relations. Having lived and worked in over 50 countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, she has spent her career deeply immersed in social issues and their solutions.
