Our Model

How LEAP Works

LEAP's model prioritizes the selection of, and investment in, leaders and social ventures with proven approaches to solving today's most pressing issues. Over a five-year period, LEAP defines a particular issue and investment thesis, selects high-impact social ventures to curate a comprehensive cohort, and works with them to scale their effective solutions, so that greater impact can be achieved. Doing this within the context of the cohort model - with its diverse yet complementary approaches and programs - has proven to be the most effective and successful way to scale social impact at a rapid pace.

As required, we leverage the pro bono professional services of our private sector partners, Boston Consulting Group, EY LLP, McCarthy Tétrault LLP, Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada, Marts & Lundy and Google.org, all business leaders in their respective industries.

4-Step Model

1. Define

Through research and consultation we define the issue, map the ecosystem of social ventures addressing it, and identify key barriers and drivers of change, resulting in our investment thesis.

2. Select

We select groundbreaking, high-impact social ventures with extraordinary leadership, curating a cohort that captures a diversity of interventions and perspectives.

3. Invest

We provide hands-on, long-term engagement to each social venture to support them as they grow. Our proprietary resources, methodology and tools - along with strategic funds and pro bono professional services from our sector partners – set them up for scaling success.

4. Sustain

We leverage the power of collaboration within our portfolio to effect sustainable change when addressing an issue. By sharing ongoing knowledge and experience across the cohort there is continuing learning and solid groundwork for sustainability at scale.
